Kiahna Loses Her FIRST Tooth!

Less than an hour ago, Kiahna pulled out her very first loose tooth! She has been waiting FOREVER to achieve this right-of-passage into childhood. The adult tooth is already showing through...and she is smiling from ear-to-ear!

We Have Crabs!!!

Today we took our vehicle in to Sears for some check-ups. This particular Sears is located in a huge mall, so we walked the mall while we waited for the van to be done. This particular mall also had some hermit crabs for sell. We were instant suckers for the cute little things. Since dogs and cats are out of the question right now, and since our past beta fish guests expired at a rate that suggest murder, we thought we would try to host hermit crabs in our home--specifically in the vacant beta fish tanks.

Each of the kids walked away with their own hermit crab and each crab got to have 2 deluxe, designer shells. Only one of the crabs got its picture taken because the photographer, Niah Harris, demonstrated obvious favoritism for her crab.

We hope to be more successful with these critters than we were with the fish. Only time will tell...

***Current Update as of January 20, 2012***

Only one crab has survived. Isaiah's crab is the only one left of the bunch. I guess we weren't as successful as we had hoped to be. We do plan to buy some more crabs and give it one more try.

Cowboy Monkey

We went this morning to one of Niah's LAST dental appointments. She is beginning the process of having her braces removed and being fitted for a retainer. Isaiah often likes to bring his horse, which he has named I-Ho-Neigh, on our outings. He also likes to wear his monkey jacket and pretends that HE IS a monkey. On this particular day, he had several chuckles and smiles from some older "grandparent" type people.  This is such a precious stage, and one that we grow out of too quickly.  So for now, we will just enjoy and cherish our cowboy monkey!

Bible Quiz

Last year Niah was introduced to Bible quizzing by some homeschool friends at PE.  She enjoyed it, but always felt behind everyone else since she had joined the quiz group several weeks after it had originally started.  This year she was able to start the new year on schedule, and she has been doing a great job keeping up.

Most of the quizzes are in the Oklahoma City area.  This quiz was on Saturday, November 5th in Olathe, Kansas.  The kids and I went up with her, and we stayed in a hotel since it was too long of a drive to do in one day.  Of course we stayed in a hotel with an indoor pool, and to Aliya/Kiahna/Isaiah, THAT is the best part of Bible quizzing.

As her parents, TJ and I could not be any more proud of her.  I love being able to watch her quiz.  I am amazed at her ability to memorize lengthy scripture, and still keep up with all the other things she needs and wants to do--like school work, chores, and play time with her friends.  We are proud of her for all her dedication and hard work.

Making Molecules

This year is the first year that we are splitting up the sciences.  The younger kids used to tag along with Niah's studies, but now she is in high school and studying biology....BORING!!!  So, we're starting the elementary series over again from the beginning with the focus being on Aliya--Isaiah and Kiahna are the tag-alongs.

The first subject in the elementary series is CHEMISTRY.  Some people think that chemistry is boring, but when marshmallows are used to help build molecules...well, maybe it's not so bland after all!
