Dirty Work
Last week in one of our history lessons, we studied the Ancient Native Americans and the "mound builders". The mound builders built huge elaborate mounds when they buried their people. Some of these mounds were shaped into different animals, like snakes or turtles. Today's assignment was to build a mound into a creative shape.
The first task was to gather the dirt. I normally frown on bringing dirt into the house, but that's just what we did! We then added a little bit of water so that they could shape the dirt (now called mud) easier.
Niah built a turtle mound.

Aliya built a pancake mound. (???)
Kiahna...Let's just say she built an abstract mound.

Isaiah wasn't sure what was going on--he just loves to watch.

That sounds like a fun assignment for the kids! I think being *allowed* to play in the dirt, and even make mud out of it, had to make for a fun afternoon!! ;~)
Great job on your mounds, girls!
I had fun building the mound. I really liked how my turtle looked.
