Dry Ice Experiment

One of the subjects we have been studying this year in school is astronomy. We have learned that comets are made of dry ice and chunks of rocks. We have also learned that Mars has a lot of dry ice on it. It's hard to really grasp the concept of dry ice unless you experience it...so that's what we did!

We put the ice chunk in some water. At first it really bubbled and "steamed". Then after about an hour, it quit steaming because there was frozen water all around it. We had to change out the water in the bowl and replace it with HOT water in order to get the steam going again. We had fun with it, and the kids are already asking when we can get some more!
