Camp Out

The Harris family went camping! That's right...camping!!! It's been about 10 years since our last camping trip...and we have added 3 more campers since then!

We left Thursday (April 7th) and headed to Robber's Cave in southeastern Oklahoma. The kids were beyond excited. We couldn't get there fast enough, but we eventually did. We were the only campers, which meant that we got to pick which ever camp site we wanted. There was a guy who showed up later on in the evening, but he slept in his truck on the other side of the camp grounds.

There was a fire band in the area, so in order to have a campfire, we had to soak down the ground with water from the lake. Aliya volunteered to fill up the container with the water, and then I carried it over to dump around the fire pit. After that the kids and I gathered fire wood while TJ started the grill. Finally he got the camp fire going, and we had SMORES! Could it get any better than that?! Well, yes it could! Just add a few silly camp songs, and the fun continues!!!

We went to bed early...mostly because there wasn't enough light to see. I wasn't sure exactly how well we were all going to sleep, but we actually did okay. We woke up around 6:00 am, and after morning potty breaks, the kids ran straight to the lake. Isaiah loved throwing rocks in the water--he never got tired of it.

Thursday was not only the first day of camping, but it was also Isaiah's first potty-training day. So far he has not managed to make it to the potty--that meant that we were cleaning up lots of accidents. Finally after dirty underpants #5, I just kept his pants off and let him run around cheeky-bum style!

The kids didn't want to leave the lakeside, but they were equally curious about the cave, so eventually they conceded.

After getting everything packed up and loaded, Isaiah threw his last rock in the lake , and we headed up the road to the cave. As soon as we got out of the van, Aliya found a big rock and start climbing on it.

The view was breathtakingly beautiful. I love mountains, and so I cherished every minute of our hike. We climbed, and climbed to the top. Before long, we made it to the cave.

The cave was not as large as I was expecting it to be. Aliya and Kiahna kept expecting to see the robbers. After explaining that the robber's lived there a LONG time ago, she then expected to find their bones. I guess history is hard to grasp...even for me sometimes!

After hiking for about 2 hours, it was time to head back home. We had a great time, but I was ready for a shower! The kids had fun, and we are already planning our next trip.

As for Isaiah, he FINALLY went pee pee in the potty TODAY! After 3 long days, he finally did it! So...the next time we go camping, we won't have to mess with diapers or potty training, or any of that mess. THAT will be fun!
